The heel is the largest bone in your foot, so when it hurts, it can affect every step you take. Heel pain can limit your activities and lead to referred pain as you adjust your gait to avoid the pain.
While your feet keep you in the move the entire day, your shoes protect them from the harsh realities of the road. Your shoes protect your feet from burns, cuts, sores, and discomfort. This is certainly the reason why shoes have been an integral part of human civilization since early times.
